Done at the request of

This has got to be the longest I’ve spent on one picture. It took almost 10 hours to complete. I simply could not do bodies and debris around the shore – the proportions simply did not want to work for me. I put a few rocks around instead to make it look less bare. Let’s just say the enemy Vikings on the horizon, sailing away from the land, attacked from the other shore.

I know my pictures aren’t usually this… dark themed, but it seemed like a good idea when it was requested and I rather like it anyway, despite the bloody sword and overall hopelessness of that one Viking’s life. Perhaps it’s the beginning of an adventure anyway…

I have to ask... HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED RUNE!

Lee Thinks not... in which case you should know.

This is so Rune...

Anyway, Best of your pics so far I think IMO. The whole wind situation bothers me a bit but I don't think that can or should be changed now. A lot of wind needed to keep the that flat in 1 direction, yet no waves...

I actually thought about the wind thing, and really it should be blowing against the shoreline visible, hence not really creating much waves.

WOW you're finished with it X3 IT looks sooo much better than the unfinished version you showed me and you did a wonderful job with lighting, especially the flames and the reflections on the water near the viking ships! Great atmosphere! :D

You're really good at drawing snow...one of my favorite things in this world...the shading is perfect, and the smoke too, it's really well done...

The sun gives it hope, it makes you feel (and thats the most important part of art, making people feel, mate) that even though everything is pretty terrible at the moment, they will definitely get better...

Well you surely deserve the compliments, mate! How long does it take to create thins like this? They're really amazing...unfortunately, I'm not gifted with photoshop and the such. I like photography but am unsatisfied with anything that i have created so far...and plus my job and stuff...I think it may be a while before I put anything on DA.
Well, I shouldn't talk about meself when I'm writting a coment to yeh...hope to hear back from yeh!

The ambiguity of this presents multiple intriguing possibilities and potential interpretations. Is the wounded Viking a member of the raiding party? If so, why was he left behind? Treachery, or perhaps he was simply not very popular with the others.

Is this a Viking raiding party returning home to find their own town pillaged? I lean towards irony, but only because I'm biased.
