Provocative?

Somebody asked me the other day whether I wanted to read their "young gay fantasy" stories and assumed that I would be interested. I said that I was not interested in such a thing, am straight, and have a girlfriend. He said that that surprised him, and then suggested I give the "lesbian" section of the website a go. lolno.

But then I grew curious and wondered how many others had made this presumption about me. I asked why he thought I would be interested and he simply said that my art was provocative. I then looked it up for clarification (it took 7 minutes to load dictionary.com) and it basically means, "serving to stimulate". At least, that's the nearest meaning I could match. I told him he was just seeing what he wanted to see. It is NOT my aim to create provocative pieces of artwork in that manner for that purpose, if you get my meaning.

I've been asked a couple of times in the past, 'What's with all the little boys? It's sorta creepy' And upon explanation they would eventually stop replying and I would be left with my counter-questions hanging. I sort of wonder what they wanted me to say in the first place...

Now I pose a question for all my watchers: Do you feel that my art is provocative in this way? And if so, why?

My advice on art

I wouldn't say it's provocative, I don't see it and go, "wow, this guys a pervert."

Though I do see why someone might assume it were ( [link] comes to mind). But it mainly depends on how you look at it, your work isn't inherently provocative, but I can see how it could be turned based on a viewpoint to appear that way.

--
Never say, "I can't." Instead ask yourself, "how can I?".
:iconmanamaraya:
XD you mean like, "You draw little boys! You must really love little boys"? In a less than innocent sense?

Kinda... a bold thing to assume, actually 8[

I do not think your work is ';provocative'.

Your art is awesome. In no way provocative. :3

Oy.
I never got that from your art. I just like the fantasy aspect, and the costume design.
I hate it when people ask me to read stuff I'm not interested in. How am I supposed to give a fair comment on it if I don't know about it that well?
In fact, one reviewer told me "ewwww, yaoi! Anyways, can you come look at my stuff?" I told him, "Sorry, I only give people the same amount of respect they give me." And he told me to go jump off a cliff.
Greeeeat...
Some people just don't make an effort to fully understand people otherside their own mindset.

Edd: Bravo, well done, Eddy! You've convinced me; your skill and expertise in mundane, misleading, and moth-ridden carnival games makes me want to throw caution to the wind and give you all my money!
Eddy: .....you're making fun of me, aren't you?
:iconbidujador:
well, it's appealing art-wise, but you have to be a real weirdo to asume you're gay from that XD

I never thought that. Being curious though, I had wondered why your gallery was full of younger people, but I came to my own conclution that that is something you enjoy drawing, nothing more or less. *shrug*

Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present.
:iconrahxy:
Well, your stories just revolve around a young feller, that doesn't mean anything. I mean, we don't call J.K. Rowling a perv for writing about Harry Potter now do we. 8D

I think with all of the..not so innocent art these days, people are skeptical about artists. :|

As a straight man, I see nothing provocative about your art. Not in *that* way. One of the hazards of the internet is simply being accosted by the crazy types that want to make something out of what you do more than what you intended with it.

You aren't alone in being put in those situations, dude. The Yaoi Fangirls of the internet have a bit of an.. obsession, shall we say. If they even smell something that even remotely resembles a bridge to their other interests, they'll come a'runnin' and won't take no for an answer when you tell them you just aren't interested in their fantasies.

Draw anything male that isn't doing anything extra-masculine, and has anything that might be interpreted as an aspect of androgyny, they'll show up like you were mid-conversation about their favorite yaoi pairing. It's ridiculous sometimes.

Just saying I liked Full Metal Alchemist once prompted one to show up and try to divert any conversation about it towards her m-preg fanfiction.
Would. not. take 'I'm not into that kind of thing' for an answer. Not when said politely, anyway. After I made it abundantly clear I was disinterested and would not talk about gay sex or m-preg with her, she called me immature and left.

I don't even have anything ';provocative' in my gallery, and that translated as 'lets see if he wants to talk about m-preg fanfiction.' Relentless!! Not to mention that a few places I no longer go for roleplay used to have people private messaging random guys, asking them 'Yaoi?' 'Do you roleplay yaoi?' 'Do you like yaoi?'

It's just one of those things about being on the internet in the anime/manga, comic/cartoon or roleplaying communities. Don't take it personal, they try and do that fishing routine with everybody.

Hehehehehe . . . hahahahaha . . .

Have you ever thought that, rather than because your art, somebody might assume you were gay just by getting to know you? ;)

I kid, I kid. Other than being artistically impressed, I don't have any other feelings being invoked by your gallery. To keep my faith in humanity intact though, I like to think that people can distinguish between adoration, impression, love and lust. Unfortunately that isn't always the fact about people though.
