Do you believe in God? Do you think He's real?
If you posted on the last entry and think differently, or your thoughts haven't changed at all, I ask that you would share your entry. I believe that everybody needs a place where they can converse about such profound topics without being told what to think :3
Anything said in an aggressive/violent manner, any threats made, and any disrespectful or distasteful jokes or remarks will be ignored by myself but others may respond, so be wary. I eagerly await your thoughts

"How is it you have the perfect quote for every moment?"
"My dear, every moment was made for my words."
I believe hard things in life are there to make me stronger and more like God--not that I will ever become God, but I will gradually be formed to the image he has in mind for me. Humans, I believe, were created in the image of God, though we are not equal to him.
Basically I'm in a rough spot now, and stumbling along. But I know, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil for you are with me...your rod and your staff, they comfort me." --psalm 23

I like the idea of making people read a book that teaches manners and ethics, though. Most points in the Bible are alright, some outdated, some too bizarre. As long as you don't get overly zealous about some fictional character, it's fine by me.
I believe that "God" cannot be rationally known/understood completely. Whatever "God" is, He/She/It is so far beyond our understanding, anything we say about He/She/It/Them is in all likelihood completely wrong. Any statement we make about "God" is coloured by human perspectives. When we say God "loves" us, what on earth does it mean? If God loves us (and for the record, I do believe that God loves us) he "loves" us in such a way that we cannot possibly conceive of what that actually entails and therefore it is actually so far beyond our concept of love that the word love cannot really be applied to it.
Okay... so where does that put us (or for simplicity sake, me)? Just because we can't know "God", or as I rather like to put it, the great mystery beyond us, doesn't mean we shouldn't seek it. We've got all these religions that are very very old (and a couple that are newer) and ultimately they are doing the same thing... trying to get close to this mystery beyond us. If you read some ancient Greek hymns to Zeus and simply put in God wherever you see Zeus, you basically get a new rendition of the Psalms. Mankind has been doing the same thing for centuries... the sad thing is people don't realize this. If religious people realize that they are on the same team as every other religious person, it would be a much nicer place. I mean, how on earth can I go to a Muslim and say "Your religion is wrong" when I cannot possibly be 100% right about mine? This is not simply religious tolerance, this is realizing that all humanity's attempts at nearing the mystery beyond us is flawed and that we are all on the same page.
So I'm a Christian because I grew up a Christian. I know Christianity better than any other religion and I like it. The idea that God came down and became a man is pretty awesome, even though Christianity tends to make a lot of stuff up around that. Thats really the only reason I'm a Christian... out of chance... the chance that I was born in a Christian family. I'm not going to blame a devout Muslim guy for his faith just because he was born in a Muslim family. Everyone, love your neighbour... its not that hard.
Sermon finished now ^_^.
I'll just call myself a "spectator", just see how things roll out. But if anything, if there is any perspective I could have on god, it is that if god is as unfathomably powerful and incomprehensible as religion claims it to be, then my view of god would be as everything in this universe. Matter, non-matter, every little atomic structure, all of it ties together into one simple word. And if god is so beyond humanity, beyond all emotion, law, and logic, then I'd find it meaningless to pray or ask anything of god because god would be beyond any of my puny/petty needs. I say, "god helps those who help themselves". And when it comes down to it, if I had to show my favor to this omnipotent being... I'd preform any task that involves creation (planting, building, landscaping, thinking, and yes --- art). Hence progression.

God is the total of all existence, and thus is existence itself. All that exists is formed from pure consciousness at the most basic levels, and the sum of all consciousness is God. Therefore, God is Truth. True knowledge is the deepest understanding or "embodiment" of truth. Therefore, since God is the total of existence, and is therefore the embodiment of all truth, true learning (from experience and personal thought, not from being told) is the way to become closer and more "at one" with God. True learning is the process of atonement, which leads ultimately to at-one-ment with God.
I know that stopping here leaves some loose ends, but to tie up those loose ends would probably result in me pouring out all of my beliefs right here, because they are all connected. If anyone wants to ask about a point, I can respond to that individually.

Have you ever had a moment
when everything was clear
and then were cursed to find a flaw
and find yourself in fear?
Is a troubled future
of flaws in truth a bet?
Or is it simply by our nature
that truths are true and we forget?

I'm an apathetic agnostic. If I want to read a work of divine inspiration, I pull out a physics 101 book and anoint myself in the truth proven to us by the world in which we inhabit. If a god exists, it knows I appreciate the good things and could do without the bad. If not, no harm no foul, I still drink my root beer float. I don't grudge people who want to believe in an afterlife or an orderly, constructed universe, unless they believe that I'm supposed to fit in according to their perspective.
